Last week “Shadowrun: Verschwörungstheorien” (Shadowrun: Conspiration theories) was released. For this Shadowrun 4 “addon”, I had the pleasure of creating three illustrations. It was great to get descriptions for every detail of this rich, big world. Drawing elves and dwarves in suits and as politicians was new for me, so far I had only encountered them in a high fantasy or sword and sorcery setting.
The last couple of weeks I have been very busy creating new apparel design. I managed to slip in some nice fantasy artwork with the barbarian skull shirts. Now I am looking forward to my new oil painting which will be huge! I am planning to do a 1,20m x 1,60m picture so I can really work on all the details I imagine. This is going to be fun!
Painting in oil is a skill that has been on my “Things to learn-list” for quite a long time. I often hesitated or started painting and quickly failed because I didn’t take the time to experiment with the material.
Last year I started the first serious attempt to paint in oil. The decision to paint Elric on my first oil painting was quick at hand. It’s one of my favourite fantasy stories and packed with breathtaking scenes that will have to be painted in the years to come. In my first painting of Elric I wanted to show him in a weak state, without the strength of Stormbringer. The Title is “Summoning Arioch” and it is oil on paper on board. It’s kind of hard to call this artwork finished, because it took such a long time to create it and it was loads of fun to learn how to create skintones and glazing layers. Special thanks go to my body reference model Felix Olschewski (twice in this picture ) for posing and his patience, when I came up with a very rough sketch of the scene. I’m looking forward to learn more with the next painting, it is already on my easel!
I’m very happy to show two new Designs I created for the “EMP 25th Anniversary” Celebration. The “Spring 2012- Magazine” is out now. These images are linked to the EMP website, there you can have a closer look at them in Zoom view.
“Little Red Riding Hood” progress from rough sketch/composition to my final painting. You can have a look at a larger version of this artwork at my portfolio page.
2011 has been great year thanks to all my friends and clients. Thank you all!
Work on exciting artworks and T-Shirt designs continues in 2012 and I am also setting out to improve my skills in traditional media in my spare time. Currently I am learning to create proper skin tones and drapery using oil color. I am having a lot of fun and will release my first oil artwork in a couple of weeks.
I had the pleasure of designing the Shirts and Hoodies to EMPs 25th anniversary. Their new catalogue is out now and among a lot of great stuff it contains a couple of my own designs. I am really excited about that. You can find links to my designs on my Shirts / Apparel page. Happy anniversary, EMP!
During the last couple of weeks I have been very busy working on a lot a different projects. Of particular mention is the release of the official Blind Guardian “Wacken Harvest 2011″ shirt with the Servant of Arioch artwork on it. I am absolutely thrilled as Blind Guardian are a major source of inspiration for my work and it is great to get a chance to give back something that has in part grown out of their music. The “Wacken Harvest” shirt is available at the EMP Webstore.
Some of my T-Shirt and apparel designs are now available exclusively through EMP, the Heavy Metal merchandise mail order. Have a look at the designs on my new “Shirts / Apparel” Page.
